But the defense isn't focusing on Kobe alone. He is being defended with straight up single coverage, just like every other Laker on the floor.

There's really no reason for double teaming him all game, but he gets quite enough of double teams when the shot clock is coming down.
Single coverage, double coverage, doesn't really matter when you have great players set up for your players. Lakers have none, Kobe would be a better ginobili on the spurs.
