By that time, PJ Brown will be gone, but the core should still remain the same.

Hinich, Gordon, Deng, Noc, Wallace, Tyrus, Thabo will still be around unless some trade happens. We would also have picked up some rookies by then, hopefully Hibbert/Hawes, and some other decent role players, so adding Bryant to the list would just make the team unbeatable. That would also allow Gordon to fill what he wants his role to be, by comming off the bench. I just think egos would be everywhere having that many players.

Hinrich/Duhon
Bryant/Gordon/Thabo
Deng/Nocioni
Tyrus/"Rookies or someone not on the roster now"
Wallace/"Hibbert or Hawes"

Being 10-12 QUALITY players deep can't be good for egos, even though I think Chicago is one team that is a "family".

Reasons why I would choose Kobe over Carter:

More playoff experience and success, scores more, a year younger with 2 more years of NBA experience, Kobe's more consistant and plays with more emotion, finally Bryant has 3 championships.

Reason kobe wouldnt be a good add (24+ mill a year payday means your team has no chance but draft to improve) for 24 mil you can get 2 good players if kobe wants to join the bulls he will have to take a pay cutt and rely on some endorsements (nike or what ever comes his way, and they will) but fortunatly for bulls by 08 - 09 season we will have a good team already ready for kobe to come and probably have the budget to afford him.

He wouldn't necessarily fit with every team, but since the Bulls have a good supporting cast and will have a few good players from the draft it should work.

he could opt out by the end of 2008-09 which btw he will be 31 years old.

If he decides to opt out and come to Chicago... then I have 2 questions:

1. Do we take over his remainding contract? 23 millions in 2009 and 24 millions in 2010... or he signs a new contract with us??

2. Since he's opting out, does that makes him a Free Agent? or do we still have to trade some of our players to get him?

I believe that we would have to pay either those amounts or something a little less if he were to agree on it, which would be like a counter offer. Also he would pretty much be a free agent if he were to opt out.

P.S. Check out a thread I made about the same topic with a similar name, to differentiate the two, on the NBA forum if you haven't done so yet. It's become a hot thread.

Would it be better to trade for Kobe by next season or hope he signs with us in 09'
What would you think if a trade like this were to go down during next seasons trade deadline.

Ben Gordon, Andres Nocioni, Chris Duhon, a future first round pick and a second round pick (cash to match salaries) for Kobe Bryant, Maurice Evans and Ronny Turiaf. We can give them a 09' first rounder and keep our 08' pick to most likely select a point gaurd.

Possible lineup after 07'-08' season

PG: Kirk Hinrich, 08' draft pick, free agent
SG: Kobe Bryant, Maurice Evans, Thabo Sefolosha
SF: Luol Deng, free agent ,Adrian Griffin
PF: Tyrus Thomas, 07' draft pick, Ronny Turiaf
C: Ben Wallace, draft pick, free agent

If the Bulls shake things up and select good players through the draft and free agency they could be really good.

With Kobe on the Bulls a year and a half earlier it will have him in two more playoffs with the team and we can have a lot more success than if the team were to wait until the 09' off season to sign him. I think that if we were to get him early the Bulls would really have a chance to make it to the finals in 08' or 09' and maybe even win it all in 09' or 10'! A seventh championship for the Bulls before the next decade would be awesome! Than hopefully they'll keep on coming after that.

Bryant will be 30 years old looking for a 7 year contract that is around 18 million until he hits 35 in which it will gradually decline. We will get 3 years of 2nd round eliminations because we will lose Gordon and Deng. Gordon will go because we can't afford him, Deng will go because he won't get enough touches.

I'm not a fan of paying 'stars' big money when they are passing their prime.

Deng would most likely be the second highest scorer on the team no matter what so it shouldn't be a factor and Bryant should make the team better. Also I don't think Deng's role will go down. Even if Bryant were to average at least 28 ppg the rest of the way since his point output won't be as high as it is now with the Lakers, it would still be very good.

Good franchises don't sign 30 year olds for 15 million dollar contracts.
