Default Real signature Moves: Tim Hardaway The UTEP 2 STEP

In Basketball it's not always just the "flashy" moves that make a player great...it's the small details...the little things that seperate great players from thier peers.

    The UTEP 2 STEP

a" crossover move" = Changing your direction while dribbling...left >>>>Right.....or vice versa...to get past your defender.

simple enuff....right?......well Tim Hardaway took the simple change of direction move and made it his own.....IMO the best "crossover" move ever...."The UTEP 2 STEP"

#1. Tim Hardaway was built like a NFL running back....short and compact he could get past his defender very easily because of his power and speed with a low center of gravity.

but as he continued to excel in basketball so did his competition...and in college he added his own flavor to the already basic "crossover" move.

    - You can change direction by switching hands.....Hardaway was great at this...he could change hands and change direction very fast.....

    - that one simple move alone was able to create just enough space/getting your opponent moving away from you , so Tim could get past the defender...

    - But then what if your defender is still in front impeding your path?...that's where the UTEP 2 STEP came in...essentially a cross re crossover

    - Hardaway had many variations of the crossover....he could crosover between his legs then crossover again right in front of you....(all while never really losing his line of balance or losing his momentum....many times a player will crossover but lose momentum and have to fight for regaining his balance and or speed/path)

    - The actual Utep 2 Step..Hardaway would crossover in front or between his legs...then recross back through his legs...(couldn't find an exact image but very similar to Wade's reverse cross below..or click the link)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...NSG1ywWg#t=42s

    - simple Crossover.....reverse pivot/spin off of defender..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...NSG1ywWg#t=26s

    - one handed between the legs cross

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDyvR8Pi7Jk

    - nearly all wrapped up into one move

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...nxQUgVKc#t=54s

Hardaway used so many variations of the crossover....he was truly a master.

From the way he dipped his head and lowered his hips to make it sem like he was changing his direction (on the first fake/cross) to his ability to generate speed on the 2nd the crossover....

    he had skillz son...

the hard part is on the recross.....you can't lose all momentum/you have to generate enough speed to get past your defender...

IMO very few athletes can pull it off effectively...core strength must be off the charts..

also notice his technique.....his legs are low and angled like a sprinter taking off....part of it is due to his build

Damn, I wish I could rep you. There's too much focus on the players and not enough on the actual game on ISH.

    Great thread bro

Could you link your other "Real Signature Moves" threads in each thread? I think I missed some and this one is pretty awesome

Is this a signature move or just basketball? I was a point guard and used to do things like this all the time. It wasn't a move I thought about... it was just dribbling to fake out the defender.

I would just dribble on the fly based on how the defender was playing.

It doesnt look as if Snow fell entirely due to Wade shaking him, it looks as if he tripped up a little on his own momentum and Wade may have even given him a little nudge unintentionally (or not) can't say.

Doesn't take anything away from the embarrassment Eric Snow felt.
