Default Could Magic chase Gilbert Arenas next year?

Yet Gilbert Arenas could help the Magic even more -- if they can be patient. Arenas, 25, is the do-everything guard from Washington who will be a free agent in 2008, an all-star the past three seasons and already one of the game's finest players. Lewis is good, but he is not close to Arenas-good. Orlando Sentinel

If the Magic can sign Darko Milicic to a reasonable contract this summer -- and even after an extension for Dwight Howard -- they can juggle the roster to create enough salary room next summer to make Arenas-in-a-Magic-uniform a reality for the 2008-09 season. Orlando Sentinel

Arenas already turned down Washington's lucrative three-year contract extension offer that would have delayed his ability to become a free agent next summer. Orlando Sentinel

Arenas is what this team lacks. They need leadership and someone to hit big shots at the end of games. Arenas is the man for the Magic. But that aint gonna happen.

Gilbert won't be a Magic cause Rashard Lewis got all the money plus Dwight Howard got an extension and Jameer Nelson is still waiting to see if he will get an extension.

Rashard Lewis was probably the dumbest investment the Magic can make. Now if they don't like what they have going with him, they have to wait forever for his contract to run out, or trade him, and who wants a player with that big of a contract on a guy who isn't even franchise-caliber? They could've waited until next year and invested wisely in Arenas, and they could've also gotten a top five draft pick. Now they have Rashard, Dwight, and pick 10-15. After Mayo, Gordon, and Rose, there aren't any SG's for the Magic to draft. Terrible move. Arenas would've brought leadership ability and a mean pick and roll with Dwight Howard. Instead, they get an overpaid wing who will most likely be in the doghouse within a year.
