Jazz management also deserves credit for making two bold moves to bolster the talent last month. The Jazz cut Jeff Green, who was added as a free agent in the offseason, and traded for Jordan Clarkson.

not sure how bold they were. Desperate would be a better word and it's because of the moves and non moves they'd made in the past that forced it so I'd be hesitant to give them to much credit. Let's see what they do with Davis now and possibly Conley before we give them any awards

For real or not, check back in four weeks.

yeah we'll see if the front office gets them more size up front that they need

On the heels of a 10-game win streak, the Jazz is standing at 28-12 and tied for second in the Western Conference behind the Los Angeles Lakers. To put in perspective how great Utah has been during the first half of the season, this is their best record through 40 games since 1999.

as I said in the heading before the season

Quote:
Donovan Mitchell has been the most consistent player on the team throughout the whole season as he leads them with 24 points per game. Bojan Bogdanovic has been a lethal shooter, while the new addition of Jordan Clarkson has sparked some life off the bench.

Mitchell didn't show up until this stretch started actually. Had been playing very selfishly. No mention of their best player. Already lost any credibility

Quote:
The dominance that Ingles possesses from outside is the same level that Gobert provides in the paint. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year is on a torrid pace, shooting 67 percent from the field and averaging 15 rebounds in the last 10 games. What’s weird is that despite Gobert’s dominance on the glass, the whole team ranks in the bottom third in rebounds during this streak. Even over the whole season, he is the only player averaging more than five rebounds per game.

Ingles on par with Rudy now? They need more size without a doubt

Quote:
They are just so dangerous offensively that it makes up for the fact that they have only true defensive stalwart.

O'Neale and Ingles

Why one writer believes Mike Conley and Joe Ingles will both be in the Utah Jazz’s starting lineup when Conley returns from injury

because that was the lineup the game he came back?

Quote:
“Ingles floundered (as a reserve), averaging 7.6 points and 3.5 assists, with a 49.6 true shooting percentage,” he writes. “As a starter, he’s at 14.8 points and 5.8 assists, with a blistering 69.3 true shooting percentage. To this point, he’s played 20 games in each role. Utah’s 16-4 when he starts, compared to 12-8 when he doesn’t.... When he’s creating for bona fide finishers, Ingles looks like a slow-motion Manu Ginobili (tip of the hat to Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes). In those same alignments, he takes some pressure off drivers by merely being at the three-point line. The impact of all of those skills was muted when he was coming off the bench. Sending Ingles back to the role feels almost impossible now.”

different bench now. Ingles makes most sense on the bench.

As it turned out, expecting Ingles to carry the offensive load in lineups that included Emmanuel Mudiay, Ed Davis and Jeff Green was, in a word, ambitious.

Green and Musiay were both scorers as it would be with Mudiay and Clarkson. Better pick and roll partner in Bradley and better shooting with Niang

Quote:
Gobert led the league in field goal percentage last year and he’s currently making 67.6 percent of his 8.6 shots per game—something that’s never been done (non-Wilt Chamberlain division)—but he can’t score efficiently without assistance, and is a liability dribbling the ball with his face towards the basket while 20 feet from the rim. That hurts. Space creation is synonymous with effective offense in a playoff series, and for all Gobert’s activity—how he screens away, cuts at the right time, and hunts every missed shot—he still can’t make defenders who ignore him pay with a reliable jumper. In that way he’s not Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, or Towns.

good luck now that Rubio, Favors and Exum aren't around to leave open

Quote:
Defensively, he’s still vulnerable in space, which forces the Jazz to drop him back into the paint against pick-and-rolls, regardless of how lethal the opposing ball-handler’s pull-up three might be. That lessens his flexibility in certain matchups, but it’s not powerful enough to disqualify Utah from title contention or anything like that.

He's not though. The defense was good enough to beat Houston the last two years. Horrible offense

Quote:
When stacking Gobert’s value beside Mitchell’s, it’s worth noting that Utah’s net rating goes from +11.4 to -3.8 points per 100 possessions when the dynamic combo guard is without his anchor. Flip them around and Utah is still +5.3 points per 100 possessions when Gobert plays without Mitchell.

saw it tonite. Game was over as soon as Rudy fouled out

Quote:
That disparity is noisy but also not the world’s biggest coincidence. And even though I’d prefer having Mitchell on my team for the next five years—particularly in the playoffs—it’s impossible to deny Gobert’s centripetal impact on his team’s foundational success. He’s less glamorous than every other All-Star candidate, but it’s so hard to picture the Jazz actually getting better on one side of the ball if he missed significant time with an injury, as the Minnesota Timberwolves have since Towns went down over a month ago.

would they make the playoffs without Gobert? Not seeing it

I had just finished saying some really nice things about Emmanuel Mudiay on NBATV, and then he reverted back to old Mudiay tonight. He went 1-5 from the field, added two turnovers in the span of 12 seconds. In particular, he’s just not vertically athletic enough to challenge anyone at the rim, bigs or wings. He should always pass the ball in those situations, especially in transition.

biggest problem is he refused to shoot open 3's

Quote:
Rayjon Tucker has promising athleticism and defensive drive, but he’s going to need to get his 3-point shot under control to make it in the league. Right now, every one is going three feet beyond the basket, he’s clearly nervous in those catch-and-shoot situations. This should mitigate with time on the court, but you’d have hoped he’d get over those jitters by now.

why isn't he with the Stars learning the system first?

The Pelican guards were blowing past the perimeter defense all night, regardless of who the on-ball defender was. Gobert was put in no-win situations in the paint constantly. I wouldn’t say it’s a problem for the team yet, but it definitely was tonight and it might be becoming a trend.

Conley

Quote:
Did the Pelicans get the best player in the Anthony Davis trade? Ok, maybe let’s not go quite that far.

Rudy handled AD much better
