Default To what extent is gambling prohibited in America?

I'd look it up but the residents of ISH are good at explaining things.

I see a lot of stuff come out of the US about 'lines' and 'wagers' and stuff. And there are casinos.

Are casinos outlawed in certain states? Is private gambling (back-yard poker games) banned? What it is?

Just curious after reading this stuff from Silver about legalising it.

Vegas, Indian reservations and maybe a spot or two I'm forgetting are where you have the casinos and real gambling. Historically gambling has only been legal in Nevada. In a year or two (I'm not sure) we'll have it here in Boston because it recently was legalized here in Mass. Other states may also be legalizing, not sure, but the attitude towards gambling is changing all over the country with more people asking why making it illegal makes sense. We send a lot of potential revenue to Vegas and the reservations and clog our convenience stores with scratch ticket and lotto idiots. The counter-argument is the undesirables that allegedly crowd the area of a casino and the fools that will blow their rent money but a lot of us firmly believe those elements exist no matter what you do anyway.

Depends on what you mean by "Gambling". If you want a slot machine or a card table. There are 3 places. Nevada, Atlantic City, and Indian casino's. A lot of states have lotteries as well, and scratch off tickets. Then there is home gambling. Which is technically illegal most places but not really enforced (as far as I know) anywhere.

But you can have sex with whatever dirty whore you want to and while I consider it a gamble it's not illegal.

A lot of casinos going up here in North California. They aren't illegal to have a casino as long as the land is owned by an Indian tribe. The thing is the tribe purchases huge land and then has the right to put up a casino??

Its shady to say the least and these towns are doing it b/c they have a high tax rate for local schools and roads and other monies the cities need.

I can think of at least 5 casinos within 50 miles of where I live.

As far as I know, home gambling (e.g. having poker night with friends) is legal as long as no one is collecting a fee for hosting the festivities. But I'm sure each state has different laws.

Indian lands are different the the rest of the country... I can't say exactly what all the differences are but they are governed by the laws of the US but considered "nations" within their own

something like that, like i said I don't know all the ins and outs

probably should take some time to learn

also indian casinos don't have full gambling there's restrictions the have poker and slots I think

    Pretty much.

You can gamble online if you want. Not sure if it's legal, but it's available.

Indian land is considered sovereign territory which means they can set up casinos. Gambling is loosening in PA there are now privately owned casinis around Pittsburgh. No sports betting allowed tho.
