Would you rather have the '97-98 starting five with Memo instead of Ostertag or this year's five with Hornacek instead of Brewer? I think either of these teams would have what it takes to win a 'ship.
Karl Malone
John Stockton
Mehmet Okur
Jeff Hornacek
Bryon Russell
Deron Williams
Carlos Boozer
Jeff Hornacek
Mehmet Okur
Andrei Kirilenko
Ostertag was undermotivated and overpaid,
but, he really did help the defense a lot.
A lot more than anyone wanted to admit, just because he was so easy to dislike.
Ostertag for Memo, I think on that particular team it would be similar. More offense, less defense. If that is what we needed to beat Jordan, then I like it. I still can't put my finger on exactly what happened (other than Dick Bavetta waiving off our 3, and giving the nod to Kerr's 3, to come to a grand total of 6 swing points on undisputibly-by-review bad calls.
Hornacek on this year's team would be excellent. The spread on the floor would be insane. I Agree, that would take home a title this year.
I don't know, hard decision... I too think Tag played into the Jazz's defense alot more than people want to admit. One player I would trade though which I think would be an awesome team is trade Russle for Okur
Stock
Eisley/Shandon Anderson or ????
Malone
Tag, Okur when needed
Horny
I'll take Hornie for today's team. Ostertag actually was a great fit for the Jazz back then; the problem was that they had to compete against a juggernaut of a team. Memo wouldn't have won it for them.
Hornacek on today's team would be a dream come true. Don't even get me waxing about the possibilities...

Karl Malone not showing up and playing the worst ball of his life was the # 1 reason. Sloan getting thoroughly outcoached was the # 2 reason.
Who Sloan? Malone? You have to think your teams players and coaches are better than everyone else's to be a fan? In NY it's normal for fans to not agree with everything their team does. In Philly they've booed future HOFers from their own teams.
