Well they obviously are his friends, but they also have the unique perspective of being NBA contemporaries. I thought it was pretty cool, and it's good to see greatness be recognized and appreciated by greatness.

Because Kobe is a legend. There's nothing weird about it. Those guys competed against Kobe, won multiple gold medals with him and were inspired by him growing up so they wanted to show him their appreciation for what he's meant to the game and to them personally.
