Default Great records with one awful track?

Every now and then I'm sitting around listening to a record and I really get into it. You know what I mean, putting a CD on and you are just feeling every song.

Then the fourth song comes on and 30 seconds into it I'm thinking; "WTF is this ****?!"

There is just one song, sitting in the middle of the record, that completely ruins it. That makes it impossible to sit through the entirety of the record without skipping a song. One song that degrades the record to just a great collection of songs as opposed to a brilliant hot streak of greatly interwoven tracks that turn listening to the record into a trance like experience .

A couple of these records for me are:

Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
Boy, this is a famous one. Right in the middle of the record Jimi let's the Noel Redding written stinker "Little Miss Strange" sit there and ruin the consistency of the record.
Side A ends brilliantly with the "hit single" Crosstown Traffic and then the hypnotic "Voodoo Chile". Then side B continues with Little Miss Strange.
Well, at least with the LP you have to flip in anyways and you can put the needle ahead. But this means that on the CD it comes right after.
Horrible.

And a little less well known is that Axis: Bold as Love had the exact same thing going on. It's not quite as bad because Jimi's writing is not that great on that record either, but why they have that Noel Redding garbage in the middle of the record I will never know.

Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage

I was just listening to this. It took me a while to really explore Herbie's pre-70ies stuff, but this record is brilliant. It's pretty playful and lighthearted, but still original. Because Herbie obviously is one of the great true originals in the music world.
But after the brilliant title track, the opener, comes this horrible cliché rollicking jazz thumper. Unbearable to listen to. Then he finds his groove again and the last two tracks are probably top ten material for his career.

Tom Verlaine - s/t
I never get why an artist would put joke songs on his records, but this is just a classic example. Right there at number five Verlaine comes with this track called Yonki Time, which consists of a string of nonsensical slurred lyrics and stuff getting smashed in the background.
It make no sense, it's not an interesting listen even for the first time, and it ruins the flow of the record.

I also wanted to put Dylan's "Rainy Day Woman" on there because it's pretty much the reason Blonde on Blonde is not his greatest album, but at least he had the sense to make it the "playful" opener.

I could probably think of a dozen more, but I'm curious to hear what some of you can come up with, the music peeps of ISH I mean?

Almost any album with a skit that isn't College Dropout (Little Jimmy skits) and Late Registration (Broke Phi Broke). Most albums (rap at least) have skits that pretty much consist of some dudes talking sayin stuff you can't even understand like "ay man wut u smokin? mannnnnnnnn im F*CKED UP! haha! mannnnnn"

I'm assuming you mean the writing wasn't that great for Hendrix, not that it just wasn't all that good.

Yeah B-Low, those Little Jimmy skits were good.

Hmmm, let me think of an album..

Well, I know alot of people on this board dislike Nickelback, and he quite often has a "WTFwereyousmokingwhenyoumadethissong" song in his albums. Dark Horse(his most recent album) had S.E.X which I found as a really odd choice, but the whole Dark Horse album was all sexual innuendos anyways.

Naw, I meant that the writing just isn't that good throughout the record. Not to say there aren't a bunch of strong moments, but there are a couple of pretty weak efforts as well.

Marvin Gaye - Let's Get it on - Many will disagree with me but the song 'Let's get it on' completely ruins the flow of the album for me. I absolutely hate that song because of its explicit nature regarding sex. I don't mind songs about love and intimacy (even though those songs bother me too), but this song crosses the line. I interpret the song as just being about making out with some chick.

Another album of his that bothers me is 'I want you'. That album is too sexually charged in some areas. I don't like that filth in my music. On one track I swear I can hear a woman moaning like shes getting f'ed by some guy. It pisses me off because thats one of my favorite tracks on the album. I think the song is called 'Since I had you'. The instrumental arrangement in that song is beyond amazing but the sexual innuendo just ruins it.

I'm not sure I understand, because even though BAL is not my favorite Hendrix album, it still knocks the socks off of most rock albums. It's not Hendrix's top tier material, and maybe for Hendrix it's not fantastic, but it's not a mediocre effort on the whole.

Listen, when I listen to music I want to hear MUSIC. I don't need some chick moaning on my favorite song. It gives the music a cheap "pornogrpahy" feeling to it. For example on the Lets get it on album there is a track called 'You sure love to ball", 20 seconds into the track a woman starts moaning. You just have to pause for a minute and say "wtf??" Is that really necessary? It pisses me off sometimes.

In my opinion music should be a meditative experience. I don't need to hear that when i am listening to music.

Cat Power - you are free

the first 11 songs of this album are great... some of the better indie out there. The last 3 sound like she's trying to stray away from what makes her good and there's a lot of bad experimenting.
