Why do people think Rose can't return to elite level but Westbrook has?

I don't get it. Sure, Westbrook didn't tear his ACL. But Rose came back from that. He tore his meniscus in his other leg this time. And that's the same injury Westbrook suffered and look at Westbrook right now. He's been amazing. He's playing at an elite level again, he's dunking. He looks great.

So why are people doubting Rose so much?

If anything I'd be more worried if I was a Thunder/Westbrook fan that he returned so quickly. Rose gets criticized for sitting out but this could prove to be the best thing he's done. If Westbrook starts having major problems again later in his career and Rose returns and is healthy thanks to taking more time off and recovering longer.

Because we haven't seen him play like an All-Star in two years.

I am not saying it's impossible that he returns as a great player but the main reason the Bulls are still counting on his return is that his contract is guaranteed. If they could cut him for cap space I bet he'd be gone. As much explosion as he had he should return with an above-average level of bounce but it's always cause for concern when a guy is constantly injuring his knees.

In other words, Derrick Rose is not as athletic as Westbrook. The huge disparity in rebounding proves this.
