Re: Rajon Rondo
He's very athletic, i remember i saw him. his hands are like the size of shaq's and his arms are close to tayshaun prince's length. he's going to be a star in the league if he gets enough minutes.

Re: Rajon Rondo
From what I've seen in his limited minutes this year, he's very athletic, he's a good decision maker, he's a decent finisher around the basket, and he's also a great overall defender. Sometimes he makes such a bad decision, it makes you realize that he's a rookie, but then he gets a steal at the other end and makes you regret ever thinking that. He's definitely on his way to becoming a pretty decent floor general in this league.

Indeed. Just because he only takes 4 or 5 outside shots a game doesn't mean he doesn't have one. He went two for two from the three. In fact, if I remember correctly, he doesn't shoot very often, but when he does, it usually falls.

Re: Rajon Rondo
Jason Richardson's jumper was ridiculed when he first came into the league as well. This is something Rondo can fix. Further, Rondo doesn't need to have three-point range to be effective. If he can hit 16-18 footers off of pull-ups, he will be very effective because he is so good at getting past the initial defender.
Also if he can step into medium range jumpers after dishes from KG and/or Pierce he will help the Cs give the opposition fits. The first thing teams are going to try to do is double KG in the post (leaving Kendrick) and drop Rondo's defender in Pierce's path to the basket when he drives off the inevitable KG pass. If Rondo is able to catch and shoot from Pierce's pass in this scenario, defenses will be hosed.

Oh yeah, Mitch Kramer?

It isn't a case of him not shooting very often. It's a case of him having the worst jumper out of any guard in the NBA. It's a case of him shooting sub-30% not just on jumpers, but any shot taken outside of five feet last year. Other parts of his game are really nice, but his jumpshot is f*cking woeful. So basically, no, you don't remember correctly.

Re: Rajon Rondo
i thnk for the Celtics to do well in the 07-08 playoffs, Rondo needs to step up, he needs to be a contender for MIP.

Exactly.
I am a bit worried about Celt fans bandwagoning this guy (too early) and then crucifying him midseason just because he is playing at his level. TONS of PG's are athletic, its a requirement for the job, so that does not save him. Certain skills are just paramount to the position, while others are secondary like outside shooting, inside shooter, slashing, etc,. Obviously his (bottom of the league) jumper hurts the team on the O, but also allows the D to ignore him and better double team others. Boston is not in good shape if the current version of Rondo is playing 30+ min a night.
Focusing on the 7th or 8th seed is the best thing the Celts could do. Don't over expext and don't blow out the engines before eveb getting to the playoffs.

Please clap.
Re: Rajon Rondo
How does a team "focus" on the eighth seed? Make a conscious decision to win every-other night? Or maybe just not to try to win against good teams? That's stupid. Your trolling is incredibly weak. Please come with more intelligent material.

Agree with previous poster regarding "focusing." That's just a weak way of stating your case.
One more thing, if rondo's man cheats off him to double-team garnett in the high post or to step into the lane when Pierce attempts to curl in for a lay-up or mid-range jumper, someone other than Rondo will have single coverage. This is the dilemma defenses will face with Boston all yr. They can double Garnett, leave Rondo or Perkins open, but he will find either them or Pierce or Allen with single coverage. If either of the other stars are doubled, this will leave KG in single coverage. With three guys who can beat any single coverage, Rondo's inability to shoot doesn't hurt as much.
Look, I acknowledge it's an issue but he does other things well enough to remain very effective on this team. He plays excellent defense; he rebounds very well for PG; he is difficult stop on penetration when he is faced with single coverage; most importantly, he is a good distributor. The percentage of the Celtics' offense that is dependent on Rondo's jumpers is going to be very low. The majority of his points will come in transition and at the line when he is fouled driving to the hoop. Otherwise his job will be to contain the opposing Pg and make good decisions in the half court. I think he is capable of both.

Do you realize the kind of liability you become on offense when you get passed the ball when you're wide open just so you can pass it to somebody who isn't?
