When can we expect the Grizzlies to trade Gasol for Alonzo Gee and Tyler Zeller?

A lot of people don't udnerstand the small market situation.

Anybody seen the latest forbes report? After posting probably the best 2 seasons of their existence, the Grizz churned a $25M loss. Think about that for a bit.

Gay was going to get traded for money purposes. The only thing that would've prevented it was maybe getting a new owner, or winning a championship.

The Speights trade actually gave me hope that the FO is giving this group at least a chance this year to make a run. Unfortunately things don't always fall into place.

whats he shooting on long 2 pointers? From my eye (having watched all but one or two pistons games this year) his shot looks pretty bad. Hes postups against smaller players and wideopen 3s are about all he does effectively.

We really need another playmaker on the team. Mayo would have looked good next to Prince

This will make it so much easier for the Clippers when they send the Grizzlies packing after 4 in the playoffs. They will probably be a lottery team in 2 years.

with trade exceptions(one for nearly 8 mill and one from the cavs) im not too mad they shed rudy gay's contract. I feel like most people on here havent even watched him play. HIs shooting is horrendous this year, he stops the balls, and is greedy sometimes when he should be feeding our two work horses in the paint. He just doesnt fit there. Hes a nice talent, but hes not gonna get much better and is overpaid and as a small market the grizz cannot pay that contract and not be winning in the playoffs in the short run.

With prince we have improved our defense, ed davis is a great prospect who has already begun producing. Im not mad i think it makes us stronger once they mesh aslong as he keeps hitting those threes and pondexter comes back. Well be alright

You are obviously not a golfer. This trade was more of a longterm decision than a short term decision.

I honestly think Daye will play a nice role on this team. Very solid outside shot and a much harder worker on D than given credit for. Also, a better rebounder than tay. I expect Tay will start, but he will have a role.

Just like they did after the 'Kwame for Pau' trade that also in the end.. netted them Z-Bo (cap space) AND Marc Gasol. And then they went on to beat the Spurs and have more success than they ever did with Pau. Not only winning a playoff game but almost winning two series.. taking the Thunder to 7 games.

    Definately flipping it around.

Naw I don't agree. I agree that he is been on and off this year. But this is similar to Pau Gasol's situation in a small sense. In the sense that a player is not performing because there is constant trade rumors all year long. Rudy Gay's shot may be a little off this year, but history suggests that he normally is better than this and will get it going again in the playoffs. You can't compare Rudy to Prince or vice versa. I do think they may be better in terms of the talent/money ratio, but they are still not a better team.

Having said that I have seen some strange things happen in the NBA. I have seen the Rockets win about 20 games without their big man Yao Ming. I have seen the Lakers crumble with 4 hall of famers. So with all that, I will admit that there is a chance that the Grizzlies could play at even higher level due to subtraction. But until that happens on a consistent basis, I would say the odds are low. Rudy Gay is a proficient player and I felt that he really is part of the reason Memphis is so tough. It takes more than 2 really good front court players. Rudy Gay was their 3rd front court player and a dam good one.

I'm interested in seeing how Zbo and Gasol handle the increased offensive load - they looked great together in the 2011 playoffs. Gay was incredibly inefficient and their offense was really bad when he was on the court. Gasol is a great facilitator so more high low's will be a good thing.

    Definately flipping it around.

But remember, it was a total team effort. Rudy Gay was a huge part of that success.

Strong overrating of Prince in this thread.
