Due to the Gasol deal, it gave us Kwame Brown who's contract expires after this season, which opens up alot of room for us to go after someone in this years free agency, that definitly is not short of talent.
After the 2 deals the Grizz management completed, it left us with next to no talent at 5 spot. It gave us the size we needed but completely took away our talent.
I think we should sign a PF or a C, we definitly don't need another guard. Look at the guards we currently have; Conley, Lowry, Crittenton and Navarro, all these guys can play the 1 and a few are capable of running the 2. Then look at our swingmen; Miller and Gay, both guys have great talent and Memphis would be stupid to trade either of these guys away. Then look at the talent, or should I say lack of talent, at the 4 and 5; Darko, Collins, Brown, Warrick and Cardinal, none of these have much talent, apart from Hakim and maybe Darko and even then, they don't have much talent.
The lack of talent we have at the 4/5 is ridiculous, we need to get someone who can come in and be a leader to this team. A guy who can play both defense and offense well. Also, a guy who doesn't mind running a bit, because that is Memphis' playing style (against my better judgement).
Also, we need to draft well, it will make a huge difference for us on who we draft. Does anyone have any scouting reports, videos et cetera on the next draft class?
from that list the best options are brand and jamison. i suppose jermaine o'neal but i expect him to be traded and stick with another team. i think brand will remain a clipper if he can. jamison i guess?
How would you guys think of breaking the bank for josh smith? I mean, he is a legit 4 (in the east ) and would definitely fit whatever iavaroni have in mind. He could be our joe johnson (a front heavy contract). Plus he's only 22.
C - Darko / COllins
PF - Josh SMith / Warrick
SF - Gay
SG - Draft Pick / Critt
PG - Conley / Lowry
I do hope we trade miller asap. For his sake as well
We would have to try and get something decent for Miller. Or, knowing Memphis, probably an expirer and a draft pick.
Better then keeping his 9 million (?) dollar contract right now, isn't it? I think he could go for a good expirer and a mid-first-round draft pick as well which would be so good for Memphis because they need all the young talent they can get right now.
As for who they should pick up in Free Agency, I'd like to see them pick up somebody young, somebody who's athletic, somebody who's over 6'9 and someone who can play post-defense better than the atroscity that's been going on recently (by recently, I mean 2-3 games) with Memphis. I see someone said Josh Smith - That could be a great pick-up for them and would be great for the running game of Iavaroni to have two 6'9 SFs loading up your front-court wouldn't it? Josh Smith could be a guy they could look to go after and he fits all the criteria of what the Grizzlies need.
Smith would seem to fit in better with Memphis' style of play. He's a great finisher around the rim and also a great defensive presence in the paint. Having Gay and Smith together would be an awesome duo.
