Re: Do you think Hasheem Thabeet will be a decent Center in the NBA?
Thabeet will be a good NBA player. All the criticisms are wrong:
1. Low BBall IQ, don't see this at all. He isn't a super savy Fabrico Oberto, Chris Webber, etc. big man. Ok fine. But he also doesn't take dumb shots and make bad fouls. He isn't a blackhole either, he has a simple game, if he is open he shoots it, if he isn't he passes it. I would actually compare him to Yao as far as BBall IQ.
2. Poor skills. This might have been true of freshman Thabeet, but the guy worked on his game and got better, I've seen him stroke foul line jumpers to bust a zone, I've seen him finish with either hand on layups.
Finally the guy is a definsive presence, as a team defender. Really. He closes down the lane in the halfcourt. He is the anchor of Uconns defense, because of him the gaurds can really pressure and play chest to chest, because they know that nobody is going to score inside. He also has quick feet, very quick feet. He reminds me of Tyson Chandler, only better.
If you watched Tyson Chandler on the Bulls, you would have thought this guy was the worlds biggest scrub. Chandler was benched in favor of Othella Harrington, Michael Sweetney, Malik Allen, and Luke Schenscher. That is how bad he was. The key for Thabeet is going to be finding a team that fits his style of play and a coach that respects what he brings. If he does he will be a Tyson Chandler level player at his worst.
