Please elaborate on why you gave one of the greatest movies of all time an 8/10.
On The Waterfront is a master-piece, with arguably the best performance (M. Brando) I have ever seen.
I'd easily give that movie 95/100, at the lowest.
So, to put it shortly, the reason for my score is that, apart from Brando and the guy playing the priest, I found the rest of the performances to be rather mediocre (the lead female actress' particularly so). The plot was ok but nothing especial, and the overall performance level didn't make up for it in my eyes. Then you have things like the female protagonist, who is supposed to be a total religious school prude, falling for Brando in a couple of hours... Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good classic movie, but I didn't feel it was a masterpiece. I also don't think it's Brando's best performance I've seen.
Star Wars Episode 7 review (Spoiler free mostly, only mentioning things that were highly known before the release. If you know absolutely nothing, then probably spoilers).
Love the movie. It has more of an old school feel while also adding the modern excitement movies like The Avengers has added to film. I thought Boyega was great and stole the show for the good guys. However, the real power comes from the villains. Kylo Ren was fantastic when his mask was on, but only subpar with it off. I wish they hid the fact that Luke Skywalker went to the dark side better. It would have been amazing if everybody didn't know it was coming. The whole "always 2 there are" thing needs to go, but Luke as the master and Kylo as the apprentice works great. 4.5/5
