Default No Kidd, Nene getting chemo?

Don't Kidd yourself. The Nuggets aren't going after a New Jersey point guard with a huge contract.

An NBA source said Tuesday the Nuggets are not pursuing Jason Kidd, who Monday told

ESPN.com his agent, Jeff Schwartz, has had continued conversations with Nets management about dealing Kidd before the Feb. 21 trade deadline.

ESPN.com reported the Nuggets in the last week called about Kidd. But the source said that was inaccurate.

Kidd, 34, is making $19.7 million this season and is due $21.4 million next season in the final year of his contract. The Nuggets are deep into the luxury tax and it's highly unlikely they would take on such a deal.

Asked about Kidd on Tuesday, Nuggets vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien declined to comment.

The Nuggets, who play Memphis tonight, didn't practice Tuesday. Nuggets coach George Karl said after Monday's game in New Orleans, "I haven't had a conversation with Mark about" Kidd.

"We tried to make this work. We've found out it doesn't," Kidd told ESPN.com on Monday. "It's time for us all to move on."

Nets president Rod Thorn declined to discuss teams that have shown an interest in Kidd and said he wouldn't be forced into making a deal.

"The reality is we're only looking to make deals that make sense for us," Thorn said Tuesday. "If every time someone said, 'I want you to trade me,' you acquiesced, then you put yourself in a very vulnerable position because you have a revolving door."

Kidd is a nine-time All-Star. He led the Nets to the NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003, but they're 19-26 this season and in jeopardy of missing the playoffs.

NENE UPDATE: Two media outlets reported Nuggets forward Nene, who underwent testicular cancer surgery Jan. 14, likely will undergo chemotherapy, which would extend the time before his return.

ESPN reported Nene has been told chemotherapy could lessen the chances of cancer returning, and he likely will decide by Friday to have it.

Sporting News reported Nene likely will undergo two rounds of chemotherapy or radiation treatments that would push his return back several weeks.

A Nuggets official confirmed chemotherapy is one option but nothing has been decided and he still has more medical visits scheduled.

Karl expects Nene to return this season. Doctors have given scenarios on Nene's return ranging from a few weeks to a few months.

Terrible news that Nene has to go through chemo, I hope he handles it well

Anyhoo, that "source" confirmed that the Nuggets aren't going after Kidd, so what PG ARE we going for?
