Default People who have seen the Cavs over the last several years:

What did Zydrunas Ilgauskas look like before his foot injuries? How much did he change after going through them?

I only remember watch Big Z one time in 1997 when Shawn Kemp was there. But I do not remember anything about the game. I was the first game of the season against Houston and it was played on Halloween.

My sense is that he eventually came back just about as stong and more polished from that series of injuries, because he was slow to begin with. But you would have to have seen him play in Europe to get a real sense of how he was different, since he only had one healthy season in the NBA. It's not a Sabonis situation where we missed out on seeing an all-time great center.

Mobility...he's slower. He used to be agile. Now he still has decent footwork but he needs the ball closer to the basket for him to perform them. Before he could get the ball 15ft out and give a defender the business himself. Now he needs to fight for position downlow to get closer so he can make a move. Also rotated better on defender than he does now.

Cool. Just curious.

His most often used criticism is lack of speed or quickness, but it doesn't sound like he had a whole lot of either before the injuries. No huge difference, right?

Just wanted to know what we're missing.

He was the same type player.....just had more better ways to get around big men....he played like a skinny center....can get around a lot faster...

I remember Kemp taking a squad starting rookie Brevin Knight, Wesley Person, rookie Derek Anderson, Kemp and Ilgauskas to the playoffs. Potepenko and rookie Cedric Henderson were part of that team too. Cdric Henderson looked quite the player back then.

Technically, this question has nothing to do with Cavs viewers, because Z's first foot problems happened before he even set foot on an NBA court. He didn't even play the first year in the league. He had later surgeries after that, but he certainly wasn't 100% when drafted. That was the year we took Z and Vitaly Potapenko. Potapenko plaid semi-ok for us. Z never played at all that first year.

You'd have to go back to footage of him in his native country to get answers to that question.
