Default Tim Duncan top 5 GOAT possible?

Since the Spurs are winning the trophy, the real question is whether Duncan, Parker, Ginobili or even Green wins FMVP. Assuming Duncan wins it, do you think hes considered a top 5 GOAT? Or is it too much to surpass legends like Bird and Magic?

I can't put him in the top 5 cuz he played in one of the weakest eras for bigs ever.. But he will be the best in his generation without a doubt..

Prime Shaq, Dirk, Garnett every year is weak? Or do you just mean this one potential ring?

If Tim Duncan wins, I don't understand how you could rank Bird ahead of him. I'd have him in my top 5.

    MJ
    Kareem
    Russell
    Magic
    Duncan

If he wins FMVP and plays exceptional throughout the series, you could argue he's ahead of Magic. The top 3 is out of the question as far as this season is concerned.

Easily top 5. The only thing that would hold him back is nostalgia of older players.

Id replace Russell by Wilt, but overall good list.

He would have no case over:

    Kareem
    Wilt
    Jordan
    Russell

He would have only a weak case over:

    Shaq
    Magic
    Bird

More MVPs and rings than Shaq, potentially more Finals MVPs, at least 4 won as the best player on his team, and yet he'd have only a weak case?

Fair points. It should be noted it would be only 1 more ring and 1 more MVP--and Shaq had a much better peak but the additional accolades and the superior longevity would give him a case.

As a note, I have Shaq in my top 5 all-time so my view of Shaq is higher than the general view on ISH.

Yeah, I'm not saying Duncan would automatically be ahead of Shaq (though I do already, and I have Duncan in my top 5), the two are almost inseparable.

Duncan's peak, for me, is right up there with Shaq's though. Shaq's 2000 title run and Duncan's 2003 title run are easily among the five greatest ever.
