On Feb. 6, 2008, the Heat traded Shaquille O'Neal to the Suns for Shawn Marion.
Last year, the Heat not only traded Marion to the Toronto Raptors for center Jermaine O'Neal on Feb. 15, but already was deep into negotiations with Toronto about that trade during the first week of February, including administering a physical on O'Neal.
Against that backdrop, Erik Spoelstra finds himself trying to coach a team loaded with expiring contracts.
And here begins the 2 week countdown...
4 options as I see it:
1) Do nothing
2) Get under the luxury tax
3) Do a lateral trade of expirers for expirers
4) Abandon 2010 plan and trade to assemble roster right now
#2 would absolutely piss Wade off, and he's probably going to leave...#1 might still end up in a playoff spot, but it would be a hard push... #3 doesn't seem like it would work trading mediocre talent for more mediocre talent was basically Quinn for Alston, and it hasn't helped any... #4 would go against everything Pat Riley has been preaching the last season and a half
