Default Bobcats, Okafor agree on 6-year, $72M deal

Quote:
Sources said that Okafor and the Bobcats are close to agreeing on a six-year pact believed to be worth at least $72 million, which would by far represent Charlotte's biggest expenditure on one player as the club readies for its fifth season. Okafor turned down a five-year deal with a similar $12 million annual average before last season, preferring to wait for restricted free agency.

Looks like reports of Oak being ready to move on were premature...

he should have stayed. The Bobcats seem promising this season. They have a good starting 5 on paper. Now with Larry Brown in, it looks good.

With:
Felton/Augustin
Richardson
Wallace/Morrison
Okafor/May
Mohammad

They do need some more swingmen though. They bench seems weak but starting 5 is good. As long as they can stay away from injuries they'll be fine

You forgot Dudley and Carroll (and probably Weaver), so we're pretty good so far as swingmen. We need a big, and I'm surprised we didn't offer Kristic a 3 yr MLE deal but it appears he's signing with a Russian team.

I'm thinking we offer a part MLE deal to Foyle.

Great news!

Is there a more mobile PF we could offer the MLE to? We've already got Davidson and Hollins under contract, adding Foyle seems to duplicative.

I don't know if I'm happy that the deal is done, or mad that we wasted all this time hinging on the damn Observer to actually give us accurate news. I mean really, for about a month, this is what we got...

"Okafor offered less money than last year. He wants a S&T. He wants out of Charlotte. There are no more negotiations.....Oh, by the way, Okafor has agreed to a 6 year deal."

Does that not piss anyone else off? By the way, I said this was the case in a thread the other day...back when Bonnell reported negotiations had stopped...I said,
Quote:
Wait, how could I be so stupid....Rick Bonnell reported this....so negotiations are probably very healthy right now.
No really, go look, its in the thread "Okafor and Bobcats set for more negotiations."

See? I did say that.

Observer sucks.

WOOOOOO HOOOOOO, finally this crap is over and Okafor is a Bobcat for life. Now, if the team could just learn how to draft, we might be in business to make the playoffs. I hate to say it but returning the exact same team as last year just isn't going to cut it, we need to sign SOMEONE to an MLE.

And I remember that Timmeh, it's just comical at this point.

Returning the same team this year will make us better. We have better chemistry and a seasoned coach who won't alienate the players with his inexperience.

I agree. Just having LB is gonna be worth 10 more wins. Now if everyone can stay healthy.....

Good thing this is finally over. Now we can focus on free agency.

This move restored a little of my faith in the front office of this franchise.

Or make a trade, say Crash and May for Rasheed Wallace?
