Default Weaver Traded

Quote:
Charlotte Bobcats General Manager Rod Higgins announced today that the team has traded the draft rights of Kyle Weaver, selected with the 38th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, to Oklahoma City in exchange for a second-round pick in 2009. Oklahoma City acquired the pick from New Jersey on July 27, 2006, in a deal that sent current Sacramento Kings forward Mikki Moore to the Nets.

Weaver was a member of the Bobcats summer league team that competed during the 2008 NBA Summer League presented by EA Sports in Las Vegas. In five games, he averaged 6.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 17.4 minutes.

The Bobcats roster currently stands at 14 players.

It's a relief that the team no longer feels compelled to sign a player with low stats. Even if he has potential, we need veterans. Will we be able to use the draft pick acquired in this trade as part of a deal for a veteran in the '09-'10 season?

Good move. We could of had a lot of good players around Weaver, here's to hoping similar players are avail there next year.

Weaver will be good as a backup, but it was getting crowded in the Guard sport on the Bobcats. Didn't really loose anything trying him out.

Good move by the bobcats. Oklahoma city will be at the bottom of the west so the 2nd rounder will be in high 30, plus bobcats had to many guards.

We actually got the Nets' 2nd in 2009, but it should still be around 38th-40th.

This will all depend on whether LB can tap into Shannon's potential (SB is only 3 months older than Weaver); if he can this is a great move. Still, we're talking about manipulating the 12-15 slots here.

I'm glad we got something...when we signed SB to a guaranteed deal I was afraid they'd cut Weaver outright.

So we have 2 extra second rounders in next year's draft? So if we do good enough that means we'll have 3 2nd round picks and that's it?

I smell pick swap.

I'm not sure that we have ours, but I think we get NOLA's next year. To be sure we could turn those two into at least a late 1st. Unless we're getting a lottery pick one more "potential" guy is about the most we can stand with all the young guys we already have.
