Default Anyone here work for UPS?

I'm thinking about filing an application. I was going to fill out a bunch of applications for city jobs, but I heard there's a hiring freeze. Supposedly, the benefits for UPS are really good. If anyone here works for them, is it a good job?

Worked there for a year. Worst job you'll ever have in your life. That's no joke.

The benefits are incredible, though. Depending on how much your union initiation fee is, It'll be about 6 months before you qualify for the health benefits.

The benefits are good, but try your damnedest to not get on the preload shift. Besides starting at 3:30 AM, it's the hardest shift demandwise, you basically have to try to keep up with the conveyor belt.

It's not a terrible job, but not anything I would do again unless I had to. If you have a chance to get in on Government work, especially GS Civil service or something for the D.O.D, that's a million times better.

And like dude above said, you'll likely hate it. It's best for like if you want to just stack up a few thousand really quick for like a car or something and quit. You'll probably want to fight your supervisor at some point, no matter how meek you are.

My first choice is a city job here in NYC. Health benefits and 20 year retirement is pretty appealing. The only thing that concerns me is there is a hiring freeze. I'm probably going to fill out a ton, though NYDS is my first choice.

I started off at $9.00, got a $0.40 raise after six months. Then you get $1.00 raise after every year worked.

You'll probably only work about 20 hours a week, at the most. 30 hours during peak time, which is Christmas and New Years. They take $25.00 out of your paycheck every week for six months to pay for your union fee, then once a month after.

People don't work at UPS for the money.

They work their because they're one of [if not the last] company in the country that offers free bennies to part-time workers. And the bennies are good.

Delta Dental Premier, for free.

It was probably the most diverse working environment I've ever seen. Every color, race, creed. There were a few guys who worked there that drove $100,000 cars. They make bank but are frugal and don't want to pay for health-care, so they work at UPS and get it for free.

If there is a waiting list, like many UPS jobs, you might as well get in line right now and submit an app.

Who the hell wants to stack heavy ass boxes all ding dong day long just to get they teeth cleaned for free. Hell, I'll keep my job at Little Caesars holding up a big ass sign in the middle of a traffic island because I get free pizza on my lunch break.
