It is about 1% of what he makes in a year that he is "losing." IDK, maybe it's just me, but 5 mins isn't a big deal.
Well, I don't mean to nit-pick here, but suppose you bank $1,000 a week. You're losing $10. Hey, that's your lunch or dinner for one of those days during the week. So in other words, someone else is eating what should be my dinner or my lunch b/c they're being compensated for MY work and I'M not. It's also the whole damn principle of the thing.
I remember back in the day when I was a teen and I had a job on the clock, I was famous for being late every day. Worked real hard though, make no mistake. But I was late every single day. And not 2 minutes, but 15-20 minutes.
Sometimes my boss would just stand there next to the entrance with a look of disappointment in his eyes.
My best friend's done it since high school. Started as a package handler and drives now. It certainly is a physically demanding job but, like Pete's said, the benefits are outstanding. It took him around three years to get promoted to driving and he enjoys it pretty well. He's done every position in the building and preload package handler is easily the worst he says. The hours, the amount of work compared to the evening shift, everything about the actual job.
