no one was paying attention to Kobe other than few articles about his really bad shooting until he announced his retirement. After he announced his retirement, he got the attention back while having no one criticize him for shooting badly.

Duncan would definitely get good video tributes from all the teams if he announced his retirement during the season but ofcourse fans wouldn't be as excited. If Kobe doesn't announce his retirement the media would constantly be badgering him about his poor play this season (like they were in droves before he announced he was done) and there would be the constant question going around "what is he going to do after this year".

If anything he announced it so that people would A) stop asking at every press conference and B) back off with all the hate which was really unnecessary for a 38 year old shooting guard coming off a string of serious injuries

You're so corny. LeBron is a 4x NBA MVP and 2x Finals MVP. He's a more accomplished and better individual player than Sidekickbe. By they time LeBron retires his son is now playing in the NBA. I can see LeBron being an effective player until 39-40 cause he has a much higher Basketball IQ than Ballhogbe, and also a better team player.
