Default Can you combine the MLE and the LLE?

Just curious, or do they have to be used separately?

Low level exception, also known as veteran's exception.

you absolutley can not combine them.

LLE's can only be used for a max 2 year deal, and during those 2 years you can't sign someone else up for the LLE until the 1st LLE deal has expired...

its also referred to as the bi-annual exception because of this IIRC

Nope, but I think you should be able to put them together. If you have the opportunity to use them both.

that would just drive up the prices of free agents everywhere. if you could offer 8 million to a mid level free agent the big name free agents would want considerabily more.

besides it would defeat the whole purpose of the MLE and the salary cap.

I don't think so, and that's why you can break up the MLE, if a player isn't deserving of 6 mil, then they aren't worth 6 mil, don't give it to him. And I believe that as long as you have that player the team used the MLE and LLE on, you shouldn't get another LLE until he's gone. But I mean, you don't give a player like Blake 8 mil just because you can. But lets say in Miami's case, if they could've combined them and gotten Mo Will it would've helped them a lot and their LLE is gone until Mo is gone.

And I don't think it defeats the purpose of a cap. If a team doesn't want to play the tax they wont. If a team doesn't care, then they'll pay it. How else does a team get to 130mil like the Knicks. And like this year, the Nugz only had to pay 2 mil in tax and they aren't thinking of using their MLE, atleast not fully and they have one of the richest owners in the league. The MLE is there to give teams a chance if they are over the cap, and combining them only gives them a little bit better of a chance, and again if it was used the way I suggested then they'd have to be really wise with it as they couldn't get another vets exception until that player is gone.

good points in there.

however, I see it as defeating the purpose of a cap because only the good teams would get free agents if they wanted them. weaker teams under the cap might be able to offer a guy 10 million. thats a big difference than the 5.5 mil or whatever the MLE is. If you could combine the MLE and LLE then the difference wouldn't be that great. A lot more high profile free agents would be signing for less to play for better teams. Thats not a good thing in my eyes.

That's true. But again if my idea of the LLE sticking to what it does now and not be able to get used as long as someone else is signed under it. Then the good teams can only use it once as long as that player they have signed under it is under contract. Whether they use it the normal way of 2 years or use it with the MLE for 5. So as long as teams use it wisely, they should have a shot. But you're right, the better teams will have an advantage if all things are equal, but all teams will probably have theirs tied up somewhere in a few years of the rule coming to pass.

IDK. I just feel like if the league allows these teams to have this money of the MLE and LLE, then may aswell be able to combine it. The MLE defeats the purpose of the salary cap to begin with, may aswell make it better.

That's like saying "Since MLE defeats the purpose of the cap..might as well defeats it EVEN MORE."
