Chris Wright Lecture
I got to meet Chris Wright today. For those of you who don't know him, he's the presdent of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx. He came to Minnesota State today to give a lecture to about 50 students. It was more focused on the business part of the franchise, but the man really knows what he's doing.
He seemed sincerely excited and optimistic about the '08-'09 season. He said it's entirely realistic, and is hopeful that the team ends around .500, and said he expects around 20 more wins than last season. With all of the 20th Anniversary stuff, Wright was very positive about the direction tha the franchise is going, and said from what he's seen so far, team chemistry is at an all time high.
He also had a lot of good insight regarding the Garnett and Mayo trades. The main concept he stressed was that, in the past with K.G., they had tried to build a team around one superstar, and it failed to get them a championship, so when K.G. became unhappy, they decided to take on a whole new approach as a team, and instead of putting one superstar on the court every night, they're going to go with one team.
And hearing him talk was very convincing. Yeah, I realize he's biased, but he sounded like he really does believe in the current squad and philosophy, and expects big things within the next few years.
