I'm an eagles fan and the only way we really secure a spot right now is with a record better than 10-6. Meaning we have to win 3 out of our next four in dallas, at the meadowlands, against minny and against dallas again. That's no easy task.

If the eagles are far from making the playoffs then god knows what the packers are
The Eagles have tiebreaker over the Giants, so the Giants have more pressure. But yes, there will be a 10-6 team that doesn't get in (probably Tampa Bay) while the West winner will be 8-8 at best(probably St. Louis).

The eagles only have tie breaker over the giants if we beat them in two weeks in their building
Like I said, it's still a tough road. Most other years, if you were 8-4, you were pretty much a lock to make the playoffs. This year a team in the nfc will not make playoffs with a record of 9-7, and possibly, won't make it with a record of 10-6.
There very well may be a 10-6 team that misses out on a wild card spot while a 7-9 or 8-8 nfc west team makes the playoffs
The Buc are 7-5 and yeah, there are no locks for the playoffs in the NFC. Any of those teams can go on a 2 game losing streak and end up being in danger of missing the playoffs like the Bucs are right now.
Giants @ Packers next week. Assuming the Packers get smacked tonight, next week could be for a playoff spot. If the Packers win they share the same record with the Pack holding the tiebreaker.
