Don't get the sense that this man extravagantly blew through millions upon millions of dollars. He made "ONLY" near $2 million dollars in 10 years. Roughly 200k/year. (Although I know 200k was more in the 80's).

At the rate I'm going I shall make over that in my lifetime(25-30 years or $2.25 million or more) & I certainly can see a tragic event wreaking havoc on my financial future.

Check out the BILLIONS lost in 401k's & stories of people losing everything during this economic downturn. He is a former NBA player so certainly his woes get a bit more press.

I don't get the sense that this hasn't happened to many others who once made over 100k/year.

It seems that this type of thing happens to african americans more than other types. Why?

maybe because most of the highly overpaid american athletes are african american?
i don't think this wouldn't happen to a few white homers if more of them would be able to be professional athletes, you rascist!

I dont think its racists, but Im willing to bet that for minority black nba players have 35-40 ppercent from the hood. When you dont grow up with shit and you are given millions at 22, It seems to be a fail.

Break it down to black athletes-

Grant Hill,Donovan Mcnabb,Kobe Bryant Chris Webber all came from upperclass families I do not think you will hear this sad story from them.

Look at Michael Vick,Alleniverson,JR Rider to take it back.

This is nothing about race and all about education. It just so happens that blacks are less educated too. If you have a black honours student in the NBA it is unlikely the guy is going broke quickly after he retires

True, but a different time period as well. Players made a hell of a lot less money back then. Article states Ray Williams earned 2 million during his career.
