Default 2003 Nets vs 2007 Nets

If you had a choice to select between the 2003 Nets basketball team and the 2007 Nets basketball team to start the season, which team would you go to war with?

The 2003 team that went to the NBA Finals consisted of these players...

C- Jason Collins
PF- Kenyon Martin
SF- Richard Jefferson
SG- Kerry Kittles
PG- Jason Kidd

Dikimbe Mutumbo, Lucious Harris, Rodney Rogers, Aaron Williams, Anthony Johnson & Brian Scalabrine...

The current New Jersey Nets team consist of...

C- Nenad Kristic
PF- Jason Collins
SF- Richard Jefferson
SG- Vince Carter
PG- Jason Kidd

Bostjan Nochbar, Marcus Williams, Jamal Magloire, Josh Boone, Antoine Wright & Darrell Armstrong...

no question,
the 2003 was better.

VC is no winner and the team in 2003 was much more succesful

but I think the current bench is much stronger

good question, good thread.

the 2007 team has much greater upside, but until they can elevate their defense you have to take the 2003 squad.

the 2003 team will get you through the east but doesn't have enough offense to win the finals. the 2007 team might not even make it out of the east when they run into a defensive buzzsaw, which could possibly be detroit, chicago, miami or cleveland. possibly.

but you have to like upside in general. this team has the potential to be far better than either of the finals teams. i see it somewhat of a question as to how much players are willing to sacrifice their bodies-

kittles was willing to destroy his back in order to be a killer defender and kmart was driven by internal fires to lock down other big men. who has that mindset on this current team, other than perhaps kidd and RJ?

2007..... 2003 team is good but at that time the east was weaker than today

The Nets team with Todd Mccullogh at center would have tagged any Net team since then. That's when J-Kidd was at his best (he is still awesome) and Mcculough was a very underated center of that time. Needless to say no one on this current Net team could match Kenyon Martins intensity. VC would be hugging and kissing his ass and $hit before during and after the game.

Collins will be starting. mainly because Magloire has failed to impress defensively and has a hard time going offensively.

but Collins' minutes will be going down.

I agree with everything you said. It takes heart and most of the time Vince Carter takes blame because of what he said when he played for the Raptors. I have a friend who plays basketball just like VC, he has the skills to drive in everytime and make a basket but chooses to shoot threes. He has the ability to play defense every time but is too lazy unless the team really needs it.

Kenyon Martin layed it all down there on the court I know because I remember. He was a great player for the Nets and it's all about intesity; it's what you need and right now only Jason Kidd & Richard Jefferson show it night in and night out.

Too bad Mikki Moore didn't stick around man we could have used him with a healthy ball club this season.
