Curry steps down as Bobcats assistant

Mike Sanders will replace Dell Curry as a Charlotte Bobcats assistant coach this season.

Curry resigned Tuesday from the job he accepted over the summer on new coach Sam Vincent's staff. Curry will instead do some broadcast and community-relations work for the team, as will Muggsy Bogues. Bogues and Curry played together for the then-Charlotte Hornets.

Curry said in a statement released by the Bobcats that he had second thoughts about the time commitment involved in coaching at the NBA level.

"After having time to fully grasp the commitment of being an assistant coach, I realized I could not give up the necessary time away from my family," Curry said. "However, I am pleased that I can still contribute to the organization and the players."

Curry has two sons still playing basketball. Stephen Curry starred as a freshman last season for Davidson and younger brother Seth, a guard at Charlotte Christian, committed to play for Liberty.

Bogues will join the Bobcats radio team for 50 games this season. Curry will appear on the "Bobcats Insider'' weekly television program.

Sanders was formerly an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks and Detroit Pistons. He played 11 NBA seasons with San Antonio, Phoenix, Cleveland and Indiana.

Sanders joins a staff that includes Phil Ford, Paul Mokeski, Jeff Capel and Lee Rose.
