Song is too slick to be a hit 40 years ago. Maybe 30 years ago, in 1985. It''s basically a stripped down version of the Time's "Jungle Love."

True, production is much cleaner. I absolutely love Jungle Love. My point was more like my kid and her friends think Ronson and Mars are onto this original sound and I'm like whoa there, dis shit been done before.

Thin Lizzy is Irish the same way U2 is Irish as in they are both from Dublin.

I know Living Colour has been mentioned, but those guys, damn.
Funkadelic, Red Hot Mama's guitar stuff with Eddie Hazel is the stuff teenagers should be learning to play on guitar. And Cosmic Slop, those opening drums:

It was controversial when Prince tapped a white woman to play his mother in Purple Rain.
The 1980's (no social media ) & it quietly died.
Neither of Princes parents are White.

In hindsight a real petty move by Prince to fire Jam & Lewis.
If he keeps Jam / Lewis on his Paisley Park Records may not have flopped since they were pretty good hit makers $$$$$$$$. Jam/Lewis co wrote / produced around 20 number 1 pop/r&b hits & dozens of top 10's.
They could have been hit/money makers & Prince allowed to sign his artists that all failed to make hits (except Sheila E) & led to to the closing of his label.
People have called Prince a controlling little midget so he would have probably found some way to piss off / hamper the careers of Jam & Lewis anyway.
The firing may have been a blessing in disguise some writers have opined.
