Possibly the hardest player to stop....

Nick Van Exel

I still have yet to see a player like him.

If he does it's not much. Francis's cross was good but what made his moves work was the fact he was a track sprinter with a basketball in his hands. Hardaway had some athletic ability sure, you have to have that to beat people off the dribble but Francis was like KJ in that he didn't have to even make a move, he could just run by. Combined with his lack of bball IQ you have the reason why Francis fell off so completely when his athleticism faded. A one-time elite point shouldn't fade out of the league before he turns 30.

i dunno IMO steve's crossover was slower than hardaways and i didnt think his athlehicism played much of a part in his crossovers. from what i saw he was toying with his opponent rather than bursting past him it wasnt like iversons cross which was speed francis cross was about technique but he is an idiot thats why hes not in the league anymore

Francis's slower crossover speed is due to him not being a skilled a ballhandler. He made up for that and was still great at beating people off the dribble because he was an explosive athlete. The better the dribbler, the quicker he can cross. Remember, that's not the same thing as first step and leaping ability, where Francis killed people.

nah his handles were fine the reason he was slower was to show off the cross he wasnt usin it to get to the rim but to showoff there are times you can see him enjoyin playin with his opponents coz he know how good his handles were his athlethcism comes in when he finishes

I used to watch this mix all the time back in the day, but now that I watch it, it does look like his handle is a little sloppy, and he doesn't really dribble low enough or quick enough.
