Default Projected #1 Draft Pick stays in College?

Has this ever happened? or do you think it could?

For example, this year, Blake Griffin is the projected #1 overall pick. What if he came out and said he was going back to Oklahoma next year?!

I think this may have happened in Football before... but I don't follow that sport as closely so I can't be sure.

Just a few options. Duncan definitely goes over Iverson in '96 and it's the same for Sampson over Worthy in '82. Both players were first team All Americans after their junior seasons (in Sampson's case, he was the player of the year) and returned for their senior seasons. So arguable ones, Ewing might have gone over Olajuwon in '84, David Robinson may have gone over Daugherty in '86, and Derrick Coleman over Ellison in '89. All of them were dominant as juniors and while they might not have overtaken the first picks in those drafts, they definitely wouldn't have fallen out of the top three.

In football it happened this year. In the 80s it happened more often.

Joakim Noah was projected to go #1 from a lot of boards in 2006, he stayed for his junior year.

That would seriously suck for the team who gets the #1 Draft Pick because they wouldn't get to get Blake Griffin someone who actually can be a franchise player .....

Kind of like the Toronto Raptors and that they got the #1 in the 2006 Draft but it was the first year they started the NO HIGH SCHOOL JUMP rule and which the raptors could of had ODEN or Durant .......

What a moron. Not sure he would have gone #1, but he would have been a lot higher than #9. Screwed himself out of many dollars. I guess that second NCAA chamoionship probably comforts him a lot, though.

I remember him basically being the consensus #1 before he decided to go back. His parents are rich as hell anyway, not like he's missing the money that much.

True, his dad is a former tennis star, not sure what his mom does but I think she's sort of famous too.

And chances are he'll have a decent career, without the pressure of being picked #1, which he never would have fulfilled.

It was probably good that Joakim stayed in college. He would have been a collosal disapointment as the #1 pick.

You can't even argue that Noah's stock would have dropped once we reached the pre draft camps & workouts.
