Default Bobcats waive guard Anderson

The Charlotte Bobcats waived guard Alan Anderson Monday, and apparently intend to sign a veteran sometime in the next few days.

"We did it to clip a roster spot," coach-general manager Bernie Bickerstaff told the Observer. "There's not a trade involved, but at some point we will replace the roster spot with a veteran player."

Bickerstaff would not say who the Bobcats are pursuing or at what position they seek help.

Bickerstaff said it was particularly difficult cutting Anderson, who the Bobcats signed as an undrafted rookie in the summer of 2005. Anderson improved so dramatically his first season that he was a fill-in starter for a handful of games last April.

However, a series of injuries limited him this preseason and he was in jeopardy of being cut when the team instead waived third-string point guard Kevin Burleson.

"He's a talented young man," Bickerstaff said of Anderson. "I think he will play in the league. He was disappointed (to be cut), as he should be."

If we sign a good veteran role player, I am all in favor of this trade.

Sorry you had to be the bearer of the news, Bobcat4ever. But I understand that loyalties can't get in the way of building a winning team. Any ideas of who the candidates are--presumably to back B.K. in the event of further injuries?

Darn you, you beat me to the article, jk. Anywho, more than likely it will be a veteran PG. I'll do some searching to see what FA's are available.

Ok, here is a list of possible candidates for signing as of right now:

Derek Anderson
Shandon Anderson
Will Bynum
Tony Delk
Walter McCarty
Nick Van Exel
Kieth Van Horn

Now, the list I got this from hasn't been updated since October so some of these players could be signed.

I always loved to see Van Exel play. But I don't know enough about the other players to have an educated opinion. KG is a forward and I don't think we need that. I also like Corey Maggette but I understand that the Clips are already considering trading him to another team. Keith Van Horn was a highly rated player who somehow ended up without a job as far as I can remember. Surprising.
