I can't agree that the U.S. would provide resources and funding even if this was a peaceful venture. There would be some cooperation because of the economic ties and such, but military? Get out of here!
okay this debate is turning silly now but obviously it would be a peaceful split...and even if the US insisted of stripping out all the hardware WE STILL HAVE THE TECH, like I was said...it isn't like they can remove the technology to build missiles and tanks from us...

lol, what a bunch of dunces.

I'm pretty sure the other 47 continental states would love the federal money that would otherwise have spent in Texas to go somewhere other than the sinkhole that is the US/Mexico border. Pull every single federal asset out of the state and let a bunch of good ol' boys and girls defend their state from drug cartels and fence-jumpers. See how quick they're asking back in to the union.

This kind of stuff is why the world laughs at us.

See that's where it gets blurry on how certain companies would be moderated if their HQ are in the US and not TX.

But such technology requires massive amounts of money and also time.

The flip side of that coin is all the money Texans pay in taxes wouldn't be going to the Federal Government

Texas business's and people are huge contributors of taxes to the US

But let's not forget that many of those people would leave Texas in this case. People in the cities are far more liberal and sane than the wilderness and country rednecks here. It's the reason why such a referendum would never even get voted yes on.

money? if you read the article you noticed that Texas is the 15th largest economy in the world...you think that type of money is incapable of a decent military?...esp being full of people that already have the know how to create jets/ships/etc?

Obviously the US would allow us to have hardware for our military (what are they going to say, "you aren't allowed to have jet planes!!!"?), the only think I can see being a legit issue is a nukes, and if we were to split on very friendly terms I wouldn't even rule that out completely...

Well there's certainly two sides to the coin when you're the second most populous state in the union. That being said...this idea seems ridiculously short-sighted.

it's not like it's actually going to happen

just found a deal, in 2005 the feds gave Texas 94 cents for every dollar it received from the state, so in fact in 2005 Texas sent out more than it took back.

Using the fact that Texas' current GDP would be the 15th largest in the world as saying that it would have the 15th greatest economy is extremely naive and short sighted at best

There are no trade partners, investors, economic aid,etc to begin with. Do you expect immediate entry into the WTO, World Bank, IMF?

Some of yall have never been homeless. That whole pick yourself up by your own bootstraps mentality is bullshit. Doesnt work in real world 101. Everyone needs a helping hand in the community/country- whether its friends, family, government, church, rehab clinic, shelter etc etc etc. Human beings cant survive on their own. We are not adept to it. Its not in our species nature to go it alone. No man is an island unto himself love thy neighbor as thyself etc etc etc. Class warfare is a losing battle strategy and its gonna **** us all. And I cant stand this passive aggressive ***** shit. Admit it yall cant stand that he beat white men twice. Fear of a black planet... Let Texas secede **** em. If it wasnt for California and all the taxes we put in to the federal government none of these shit kicker states would survive anyways. Republicans are fighting against history. They cant except that its not the 1950s anymore. The country is more diverse. If you cant embrace diversity and culture at least accept it. You got a black man running things for four more years. Deal with it.
