Default ANy early impressions of Julian Wright?

It's just preseason but have you seen anything worth noting about rookie J-Wright?

He's been doing pretty well in the time he's been given. A good passer, good rebounder. Right now he's averaging the same amount of rebounds as David West (5.40ppg) in 7 less minutes than West. Scott has told him to look for his shot a bit more often. Scott says he has a tendency to pass too much.

Julian Wright spotted teammate Hilton Armstrong peeking around a defender near the top of the key. Wright, being the pass-first, pass-second player he is, tried to wedge the ball to Armstrong, an ill-advised pass and an ill-fated decision.

Hornets Coach Byron Scott shook his head at the turnover. The coach has a little problem on his hands -- he has a player who likes to pass too much.

Generally, the problem is the other way around, when a player shoots and shoots. But Scott is trying to get his rookie to do just that.

"He's still very passive as far as being aggressive offensively," Scott said. "He had a couple shots at the morning practice that he didn't take, and then he had one where he was wide open, but he drove it and all he did was get himself in trouble. It's just a matter of him understanding what's a good shot, when to make the pass, when not to."

Earlier this month, Armstrong said that when he was a rookie, he was sometimes reluctant to shoot, fearing he would be benched if he missed.

As for the forward Wright, Scott said: "I think I made it pretty clear in training camp that you're probably more susceptible to being benched if you don't shoot it than if you do and miss. I don't want any of my guys to be robots, to think that if I shoot this I'm coming out if I miss. I want them to think -- 'Man, if this is wide open, I need to shoot it.' "

For a rookie he's doing fine. Bryon Scott knows how to get the best of his players. He'll become a double double beast is his career. So I wouldn't be surprised if he starts dropping 9 pts and 7 brds a night off the bench by the all-star break.
