Default Rating The Mavs Players

Rating the Mavs players according to the competition level of their peers.

I put Terry on the level of Mike Bibby, Andre Miller, or a better Jamaal Tinsley. Right under the J-Kidd's, Steve Nashes, or Baron Davises.

Damp? Playing as good as any center in the league. To quote the big man himself, "I'm the second best center in the league behind Shaq." While Yao Ming might take issue with that, so far this season that's accurate.

No one's even close to Lebron and Wade. After them there are everybody else like Deng, Josh Smith in Atlanta, Granger in Indiana, and Howard here in Dallas.

Not a forward in the league I'd take over Dirk. Not Tim Duncan, Dwight Howard, OR a healthy Stoudamire. And that includes pre-injury. They say that Dirk's no match for none of these guys in the post? Well who is? They can't even guard each other in the post. Put them anywhere else on the floor though and Superman becomes Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four because they have to stretch their game. And this is where Dirk is in a class by himself. Unguardable anywhere on the court.

Shooting guard is a game by game situation, but Stack can put it in the basket with the best of the sixth men. Harris is a young Tony Parker with more athletic ability. And that's the rotation in a nutshell so far.

Stackhouse: He has been much better at his shot selection and is shooting over 43%. I used to hate him but now im starting to like his game more.

Harris: He has improved his outside shot tremendously and is not one dimensional anymore. Look for him to be a star someday

Howard: Played great this season, just like last year, and also his 3 pointer is money this year for him. Excellent defender with a 7-2 wingspan

Dirk: Hardly anyone notice how much Dirk has stepped it up this year. His FG % is above 50 while taking jumpers. He should have a chance to win the MVP this year.

Dampier:Leads the league in FG %. Gets a double double regularly. He has worked hard this season to match his play to his big contract. I think he'll keep his starting spot.

Johnson: Not shooting well at all. He's playing good defense so far and is a good playmaker.

George: Very inconsistent this year and is struggling with his shot. He bascially a 3 point specialist and a defender.

Stack is playing much smarter this year. Still prone to moments. But overall very pleased with him. Though I know he's not popular with some Mavs fans.

Johnson puzzles me. His offense is off right now. Seems to dribble too much at the top of the key on possessions. Yet pulls off some nice assist nights. Defense is just fine. Nice upgrade from DA at this point.

They had an interesting note on Jet during the broadcast the other night. Each year his 3-point attempts have gone up. You don't want to take away the 3 from him, but let's not have that the only shot he shoots. He hasn't been consistantly shooting this year. This is one area that could use improvement.

Dirk and Josh, nothing really needs to be said about them.

Damp just keep it up. Consistancy here and he'll exceed expectations.

Devin is settling in. Now that Avery isn't riding him as much. You can see the confidence growing. Not looking at the bench all the time. I see him getting better as the season goes. Just needs to stay away from the cheap fouls that take him off the court. And hope that the shots he takes drawing charges and attacking the rim don't turn into injuries.

Diop doing just fine in his role off the bench. The hustle, boards and defense are great. Still needs to improve just powering the ball and dunking with his athletic ability.

Buck, Croshere and George are probably never know how many minutes they are going to get. And barring injury will be that way all season. They'll just have to stay ready. There will be good performances and bad performances. But if Buck and George play defense with an occasional 3. And Croshere rebounds and hits a couple of shots. They'll be fine.

I'm liking Buck this year. Running the floor well and finishing at the rim. Before he took off to Denver, I remember Nellie was getting him a little more involved in the offense. And wasn't he a 3-point threat for the Cavs?

Johnson has not impressed me at all. He holds the ball for too long, dribbles aimlessly in one spot then deals the ball off late in the shot clock to the guy next to him. On the break Arvydas Sabonis would beat him upcourt. Don't like his fit for the Mavs at all. Besides being a true pg has nothing at all for me.

Have you seen BD when he's playing, and by playing, I mean REALLY playing? You can not guard him. Marbury in his prime wasn't as impressive to me. Guy's just too dam athletic. The knock against him is his shot selection and disinterest on 'd. Catch him this year so far under Nellie then get back wit me on that.

Terry is nothing more than Bobby Jackson without the injuries and a bit better shot selection.

He is built to be the 6th man, not a starter.

I would agree with that but unfortunately we know that Avery is never going to let it happen.

You are such a Mavs downer, I have only seem like 8 of your posts and I can already tell thats how you are.

Terry better be starting and getting good minutes, he along with Dirk is the only consistent outside shooter we have.
