Default Prince out indefinitely

Quote:
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- The Pistons say forward Tayshaun Prince will be out of the lineup indefinitely due to a small rupture of a disc in his lower back.

The team said Saturday that the injury was confirmed following an MRI exam and evaluation by team doctors this week. The Pistons say Prince will continue to receive treatment for the injury.

Prince had been sidelined since earlier this month with a back injury.

The 6-foot-9 Prince has appeared in three games this season averaging 12.3 points, 5 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
I'm not a doctor, is a ruptured disc serious?

This is the first time he has missed a game since his rookie season when he didn't get much playing time before his outbreak in the playoffs; if Prince is missing basketball, it's serious.

ruptured disc is bad
you never know how long itll take to heal cuz the best way to heal it is rest
surgery is very delicate in these types of injuries
so yes, prince will be out...a while

It can be bad and it can be not so bad, depending on the rupture. It is also known as a herniated disc. I had this same injury from a mountain bike accident, and for me, I ended up with surgery (microdiscectomy) a few years ago.

So it all depends on where the rupture is and how badly it is pressing on the nerves to cause pain, tingling and numbness. I am not a doctor, but prior to my surgery, I did a lot of research on it (for good reason).

Anyway, he will be faced with physical therapy likely to start to see if that helps but it could lead to surgery, of which there is more than one option on the type of surgery. Hopefully he will be okay.

It's kind of ironic that the Pistons finally address the SF position in the draft and then Tay finally misses games. This really hurts the Pistons chances this season. He's a very important part of the team. One thing is certain, if it is something that causes him to miss a game it is serious. We can put those trade rumors to rest. Hopefully it's not too bad and we'll see him on the court soon.
