According to Kevin Ding of the Orange County Register, the Los Angeles Lakers will more than likely play both of their preseason games against the Los Angeles Clippers. Their first game is planned for Dec. 19 against their cross-town rivals at the Staples Center, followed by a rematch a day or two later.
Despite the disappointment of the late start to the season, the possibly of back-to-back games between these two bitter rivals is sure to provide an exciting tip off to the 2011-2012 NBA season.
Not only will we get to watch Lakers' new head coach Mike Brown begin his campaign towards making his own mark on the historic franchise against the Clippers, but the matchup between Kobe Bryant(notes) and Blake Griffin(notes) is sure to electrify the Staples Center crowd.
Once their short preseason is over, the Lakers will tip off the regular season with a Christmas Day game against reigning MVP Derrick Rose(notes) and the Chicago Bulls. Scheduled for a 2 p.m. PST start, that game will provide a gauge for how competitive the Lakers are going to be throughout this shortened 2011-2012 NBA season.
