obamacare opinions
After a year, what are your opinions about obamacare?

Re: obamacare opinions
Are you asking about the politics of it? Or the quality of care? Or ?
There was a recent poll where 7 of 10 respondents rated their "quality of healthcare" good or excellent.
Here's a couple of evaluations

Re: obamacare opinions
The idea of an increase in healthcare for preventative measures and treatment for low income earners through subsidization of the general public, I'm okay with.
The execution of the original healthcare exchange site upon first launch and the marketing of the actual product?

Re: obamacare opinions
California and it sucks for me. Everything requires insurance approval now. EVERYTHING. Before the ACA it was totally different. aaaaaaaaaaaand no cost benefit as a single dude making 40k in his 30's. No subsidies. I got dragged down to the very basic level of health care while still paying the same.

Re: obamacare opinions
it sucks to give MORE help to lower middle income and poor people in this country, when the wealth disparity can be even greater without it. Fcking socialism.

It's a tax, and the country gets taxed enough as it is.

Re: obamacare opinions
I'm self employed so i'm definitely loving it. Saving around 500 bucks a month.
My monthly premiums went up, but now i have coverage for ER, maternity, ambulance, etc.
A maternity rider alone would have been an additional 700 a month for me on top of what i was already paying. If that doesn't show how broken the system was I can't help you. I would have been LUCKY to get dollar for dollar value out of my old plan meaning it would have actually been cheaper for me to just pay out of pocket for all my medical expenses. When medical insurance costs more than the actual cost of routine healthcare it's time for a change.
Yes the rollout was a b*tch and was clunky but it's literally been life changing for me.

Hell are you talking about? California here, and it's fine, nothing requires approval.
You have bad insurance if they require approval for everything. You should use the exchange and get a better plan.
I'd love to see your zip code and gross salary so I could look up a good plan on the Exchange for you.
Anyway, for me, since the ACA was enacted, rates have gone up far less than they used to year over year. Instead of 10% increases every year it's only been like... 5% increases. Pretty significant savings. Also got a refund check last year; the insurance company didn't spend enough on care so they had to give everyone a refund per the law.
Still a shit system, but since Republicans control the House and Senate, we'll never get Single Payer/Universal in order to catch up with the rest of the civilized world.

Re: obamacare opinions
i think obamacare is pretty good, but I would prefer if we had true universal healthcare like you see in other developed nations.
i really like how obamacare forces insurance to cover pre-existing conditions.

The bolded is a really big deal.
I have several friends that couldn't get insurance before b/c of preexisting conditions.
I also agree with your first point.
