This is the way to do it, unless you're retarded or very old.
Any bank would front you the full amount anyway knowing you're good for it. Only a fool would request half up front now, or someone with not long to live.

Supposedly if you do take the "lump" sum and invest it you should be able to make the equivalent of the annuity payments. I think I'd rather take the annuity though and not have to worry about spending it all or losing large amounts in bad investments.
Of course if you do the annuity you have to worry about getting killed by a family member who may be expecting to take over your estate and therefore your winnings. Gotta be on the lookout, don't trust anyone.

The only reason that lump sum is offered is because so many old people play lotto.
No one under the age of 50 should consider that.

I'd have to research more if I was actually making the decision, but most winners take the lump sum

Yeah and 70% are dead broke within 5 years.
90% go broke before death, leave their kids nothing.
All taking the lump sum like fcking morons.
You can still get the lump sum for the full amount from a bank loan anyway...getting it in payments wouldn't stop you from doing anything the lump sum could do.

Re: Powerball is at $700 million, largest jackpot in history
I mean you take the lump sum, invest it all for 20 years, don't spend anything. Then you will have made what you would get had you just taken payments?
Brilliant
Just take the full amount in payments...doesn't really matter that it's being spread out.

You take the lump sum. 100% EVERY time.
Edit: Provided you have any semblance of money management skills

Ive not looked into this before, so this is the first time Ive heard this debate.
What is the main argument for going lump sum rather than annual?

Isn't that one of the first things taught in economics? Money now > money later?
