There are other factors that need to be looked at before going to such quick judgements as to why Gilbert should opt out. The potential good is that the learn develops on both the defensive/offensive ends of the court and leadership among the young guys develops. On the negative side with him sticking around the opportunity to evolve into a championship bound franchise is out of the hands of Jordan. Gilbert likes the attention; although it is because of him it may seem that at this time of the year fans are still talking about the Wizards.... he brings the publicity to the team...much of which to hard to come by at times.
They are great players and probably deserve big contracts but I still ask; Why not take a smaller contract (especially Arenas who is making more in endorsements than basketball) and get that quality seven and eight player giving them the depth they need to win a Championship?
