Question to tech savvy people
why is wifi signal stronger with a router? It makes no sense if i tell my laptop to connect to my route its faster than if i just tell my laptop to connect directly to the modem's wifi.Makes no sense since my router is connected to the modem.Samething if i use a ethernet cable its faster if i plug it into the router instead of plugging it directly to the modem.

Re: Question to tech savvy people
Your router is a top, and your modem is a bottom.
1-alpha
2-beta
better question who would be the top or bottom, Michael Sam or Jason Collins?

Re: Question to tech savvy people
There are a few possible reasons. But consider that not all wireless devices are created equal. And that's ignoring that your modem might be running on a slower protocol than the router.

Your router is either broke in some fashion or improperly configured.

Re: Question to tech savvy people
your router probably has slower wireless hardware than your router. If your router connects to your ethernet port than that would most likely be the case. because the ethernet port is faster, giving the router faster wireless connection to your laptop than the slower wireless hardware built into the modem.

Re: Question to tech savvy people
Because the modem has to route to hundreds if not thousands of other hosts in yur hood = slower
Let the router take care of some of that and handle all the LAN stuff = faster
