Re: Is Chicago the best city in US?
SF is more dynamic and eclectic than Chicago, even though its smaller.
The problem with midwestern cities is that the "energy" peters out fairly quickly once you leave the downtown core. Even a city as big as Chicago isn't ammune to this.

Re: Is Chicago the best city in US?
NYC, LA, Chicago all suck now. The generations that have built these cities, are now dead and gone, leaving lazy people in their place to bitch and moan about everything that their spoiled asses don't have. *ugh* and I LIVE IN Chicago.

Chicago is indeed bigger than the city of SF itself, but the SF bay area as a whole is around 10 million people i believe.

So you're basically saying that the cities in the midwest have less energetic sub- and exurban areas.... of which east- and west-coast cities are immune?
I live in Minneapolis, and I'd say that some of the most dynamic and entertaining areas of the metro area aren't directly downtown

I too would like to hear the reasoning behind their sentiments.
I have lived in two different large midwest cities and have loved both (Detroit and St Louis). Don't get why people hate on it.

I think you're looking at this from a tourist's point of view
You can't expect an entire city to be one big entertainment zone from border to border. Sure the concentration may be downtown, but there is no big dropoff outside of the area. Things are just a little more scattered out.
Northbound from downtown all the way to Hollywood Ave, there's all kinds of entertainment, nightlife, restaurants, etc. And that's about 8 miles of area in one direction alone.

chicagos downtown is pretty suck. Chicago is a great city, but probably not the best in the US. I honestly dont think there is such a thing. and, yes, the knocks on the midwest are really dumb and provincial. I will say that my least favorite major metro areas in the US (that I have been to) are LA, Dallas-FW, and Atlanta. My favorites are probably the Bay, SLC, Boston, NYC, Minneapolis.

Re: Is Chicago the best city in US?
Chicago..hahaha. You have teachers protesting when they already make more money than other teachers in the whole country practically. They make 70,000 and above. These people don't give a crap about education. You have the stupid mayor there crying and pleading for help with the rampant crime problem there. You also have the dumb mayor attacking a fast food place.. . Chicago must have fallen off big time.

Re: Is Chicago the best city in US?
Chicago is great. A lot of shitty areas, but that can be said of any city, even the biggest, most populated ones.
It isn't on NYC's level, (but no city really is) but it's a great city with a lot of fascinating culture, great food, noteworthy landmarks, etc.
But like other cities, you'll enjoy it a lot more the more money you have.

I would agree except there are a lot of people who just can't stand the rain... Other than that though Seattle is an amazing city.
