Default Bobcats Re-Sign Guard Matt Carroll

Charlotte Bobcats Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Bernie Bickerstaff announced on Tuesday that the team has re-signed guard Matt Carroll, who became an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Matt was one of our offseason priorities and we are glad to have him back,” Bickerstaff said. “He has proven to be the consummate professional on and off the court, and his production has continued to increase since he joined us from the D-League over two years ago.”

The 6-6, 212-pound guard finished 2006-07 with averages of 12.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 72 appearances. In 47 starts, he averaged 13.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists, highlighted by his career-high 27-point performance on December 30, 2006 against the L.A. Lakers in the Bobcats 133-124 triple-overtime win at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.

“Matt Carroll is an excellent shooter and someone we feel is a true up-and-coming player in this league,” said Bobcats General Manager Rod Higgins. “He is definitely a guy who has earned his way and will provide solid veteran leadership for this team.”

Carroll ended the season ranked second in the NBA in free-throw percentage (.904), including a career-best streak of 37 consecutive free-throws made from December 16, 2006 to January 5, 2007. He also ranked 14th in the NBA in three-point percentage (.416), connecting on 111-267 attempts.

“It’s difficult for me to put into words how happy I am to return back to Charlotte,” Carroll said. “I wanted to stay with the Bobcats because this is the organization that gave me the opportunity to have success in the NBA.”

Over his career, Carroll has appeared in 191 NBA games spread between Portland, San Antonio and Charlotte. In 175 career Bobcats games, he has averaged 9.6 points and 2.1 rebounds in 20.2 minutes.

I know you guys know this already but today they signed him to a contract.

Word, thanks for that info. I would really like to know how the payments break down year to year.
