    [QUOTE=insidehoops]Washington Post:

    Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgartner fell to Earth from 24 miles up Sunday, enrapturing millions of people following a live feed of his stunt as he became the first human being to travel faster than the speed of sound without the assistance of a craft.

    During a four-minute, 20-second free fall, he reached a speed of Mach 1.24 or 833.9 miles per hour, according to an official with the National Aeronautic Association.

    The data on Baumgartner

    It has to deal with air pressure. He was able to go that fast due to no air pressure/resistance and therefore no sonic boom. Obviously he slowed down to terminal velocity as he came closer to the earth and wasn't going fast enough to create a sonic boom. Still a total baller

    I was panicking though when he was spinning around like a helicopter.
    I think he really did take all the time he could, but the thing is he (and his equipment) weighed more than Kittinger, so his free fall took less than Kittinger's even if he jumped from a higher point.
