Default Florida doesn't deserve any baseball teams

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/photo?sl...mds106&prov=ap

LOOK AT THIS PICTURE!

Tells you everything you need to know. On one side of the state, you have a team that plays in probably the worst stadium in professional sports. The Devil Rays are in a completely hopeless situation and it will be YEARS before they will ever get out of 4th/5th place in that division. ON the other side, you have a team playing in a football stadium in weather that is simply too unpredictable for baseball. The ownership has sh*t all over the fanbase and has killed any interest for generations to come

Hey, don't blame all of Florida. It's mainly us down here in South FL. The people in Miami are just awful when it comes to attending sporting events. The Heat won the title and they still couldn't fill the arena. That picture above was for last night's Marlins game. Guess how many people showed up? Under 400. In a 47,000 capacity stadium.. It's embarassing really.

When I shoot hoops sometimes, I will have my younger brother stand behind the basket and yell at me as a way for me to practice shooting under pressure. It's really distracting, much more so than a big crowd where the noise gets lost. Sure it's the same concept in the majors. Small crowd=hecklers dream

They used to be the Montreal Expos.

The Marlins have the made the playoffs twice since 1993, won the World Series both times, yet never won the NL East. Go figure.

This was the perfect setup for this sort of situation. Both teams are HOPELESS, it was a Wednesday afternoon, looked to be HOT and STEAMY outside, UGLY @ss stadium, late season game.......

There's probably more baseball players than there are fans out there at that game.

It's kinda odd considering that Florida breeds a lot of baseball talent with their many baseball farms down there.

That was pathetic down there in Miami, and it was actually metioned last night on the NBC Nightly News. The Marlins have been in a bad stadium situation pretty much since day one, and it's been almost 15 years since they first started. Not to mention that since Dolphin Stadium is about undergo renovations (preparing for another Super Bowl and the Miami Hurricanes moving there next season), the Marlins have to be out of that stadium by the end of 2010, with no chance of a lease renewal. However, with the U moving in with the Dolphins next year, the Orange Bowl Stadium is gonna sit empty (the Orange Bowl Game is already at Dolphin Stadium), and it could be a chance that the Miami/Dade County government and the Marlins could build a new baseball stadium on the Orange Bowl site. So, at least in South Florida, there could still be hope for the Marlins.

As for the Devil Rays, they're just in a hopeless situation. Playing in the same division as the Yankees and Red Sox doesn't help matters, but they pretty much have an iron-clad lease with their stadium, with at least 20 years left on it. They have new ownership there, and they're trying to get back into the good graces with the Tampa Bay business community, after the previous ownership pissed them off.

The Devil Rays have young talent and decent hitters, but they MUST start spending money on quality pitching. They don't need superstar pitchers, just decent ones. Like a Mark Buerhle/C.C. Sabathia type of guy. Once they do that, they will start competing with the Yankees and Red Sox. Until then, it's going to remain at 70 win seasons.
