Default If Josh Smith becomes a free agent

should utah go after him?
i think they should so they can trade kirilenko for good because right now if they trade kirilenko it would leave a hole in the roster
what do you think?

Smith does a lot of things AK does, but I don't think we will have the dough to do it.

Smith may become a FA next year. Utah has about 60.5M tied up already. The only player we maybe lose it Miles (assuming we pick up Milsap's team option). So unles Josh Smith is willing to play for 100K we definately miss signing him.

Would have to be a sign and trade and I don't see that happening. Jazz need to cut their payroll in the next couple of years. They aren't going to take on more.

the only was we can cut the salary is cut AK, but just dropping him off the roster means we get nothing for him and hes quite valuable to alot of teams. But then again, teams wont take him on cos of his massive salary. I jus hope AK grows some balls and admits he aint worth it so we can keep him and get some new players...

josh smith would be great, but hes jus like AK really... hed probably jus do as good as AK does in that role

Many ways to cut salary. You trade for expiring contracts. You trade to a team with cap space that doesn't have to match salaries with you.

I think the Jazz would pay his salary still if he wasn't picked up off waivers.

He can't change his contract.

He's much younger(still only 21!) than AK and already better.

That's what I was thinking........Contracts have been restructed before to suit teams.

OR

Maybe his son becomes sick & he gets a release to go to a city with the best possible care. The next day he realises Salt Lake has the best facility for his sons illness & signs with the Jazz for a contract that's much less than his original one. :)

Well i was thinking more of him just dropping hus contract, i wouldn't want anyones children to fall ill for monetary purposes. If i did happen, Salt Lake probs wont have the best treatment... hence the reason Boozer's family went to miami and Fish moved to LA.

Duncan got an extension. He gets paid the same for the years he was already signed for. I think they used to restructure contracts but they can't anymore. They're stuck with his deal.

Depends on what's wrong. The U of U is supposed to be one of the best no?

OK let me get you straight, I'm not wishing any ill health on his family......

I'm just saying that maybe Utah can find a way to bend the rules in their favour or get a little bit of good luck. Kinda like what the lakers got....But then again people would point out that getting Boozer was kinda lucky!!

Why would josh smith come to utah of all places? He's going to get a huge payday, only way jazz could get him is if they did a sign and trade of ak for him plus utah would have to throw in like a pick or two and almond, now im not against it by any means just saying. No headband or sleeve though so who knows.

He'd have to agree to the sign and trade 1st which isn't likely. Hawks would Probably want some combo of Okur/Boozer/Deron/Brewer/Milsap/Fessenko/Knicks 1st rounder before AK and his contract or Almond.
