Thumbs up Cleveland signs Leon Powe

It's a two year contract with a team option on the second year. Good job Ferry. IMO it's a steal because it's only for the league minimum also. So, we still have the BAE to get another vet PF to fill in for Powe until January. Or we can just let Darnell and JJ fill in, but i'd rather we get insurance just in case.

Free-agent forward Leon Powe(notes) will sign a two-year contract for the league minimum with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday if the teamís doctors are satisfied with the progress of his injured left knee, a league source said.

Powe tore his anterior cruciate ligament and cartilage in his knee during Game 2 of the Boston Celticsí first-round series against the Chicago Bulls. He had reconstructive surgery on May 5 Ė his third major knee surgery Ė and has been rehabilitating in Los Angeles. Powe hopes to be back on the court by this seasonís All-Star break, and the Cavaliers are willing to take a low-risk gamble on him pending the results of his physical.

The Cavaliers will hold the option for the contractís second season.

Powe averaged 7.7 points and 4.9 rebounds last season for the Celtics, but became an unrestricted free agent when Boston didnít make him a qualifying offer.

If Powe returns to health, he could help fill a void on Clevelandís roster left by the pending departure of Joe Smith(notes). Powe and LeBron James(notes) were once AAU teammates.

The bolded part is the most important part though. "IF" the doctors are satisfied

So, powe has signed. Though apparently he may not play until a few months into the season (not sure if that's true or not, though)

I think we are somewhat deep in our frontcourt, so even if this doesn't work out, we are still good, but if he regains some of his old form, we have a decent player on our hands. That, and everything I'd hear about him indicates that he has a great attitude.

He's got a chip on his shoulder. I like having players around like that. He wants to prove that Boston was in the wrong for not making a qualifying offer.

This is a good pickup for Cleveland.
