Default Suns Select Warren, Ennis, Bogdanovic And Brown In 2014 NBA Draft

The Phoenix Suns tonight selected North Carolina State University forward T.J. Warren with their first selection and the 14th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft. The Suns also added Syracuse University guard Tyler Ennis (18th overall), Serbian guard Bogdan Bogdanovic (27th overall) and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay center Alec Brown (50th overall) with the remainder of their four selections in the draft.

Warren, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward, earned Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Player of the Year honors this past season to complete a two-year career at North Carolina State. In his sophomore season, Warren ranked third in the nation with 24.9 points per game while also averaging 7.1 rebounds and shooting an ACC-best 52.5 percent from the field. Named a Second Team AP All-American, Warren also excelled on the defensive end, leading the ACC in steals in conference games.

One of the best scorers in this year’s draft, Warren is a creative shot-maker who can get points in a variety of ways. Warren set a single-season North Carolina State record with 871 points this past season, including a career-high 42 points against Boston College. Warren became just the third player in ACC history to lead the conference in scoring and field goal percentage in the same season, in addition to posting back-to-back games with 40-plus points to join Hall of Famer David Thompson as the only two players to do so in Wolfpack history.

A 6-foot-3, 19-year-old, Ennis is considered to be one of the best pure point guards in this year’s draft. Ennis played one season at Syracuse, earning All-ACC Second Team honors after averaging 12.9 points and 5.5 assists in 2013-14. Ennis has also shined in international competition, leading Canada with a tournament-high 20.8 points per game at the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship.

One of the most clutch players in college basketball as a freshman, Ennis earned a reputation for his late-game heroics, including a buzzer-beater from near half-court in Syracuse’s win at Pittsburgh. Ennis’ poise was also on display with his superb decision-making as he ranked sixth in the nation with a 3.60 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Bogdanovic, a 6-foot-6, 205-pound guard from Serbia, has played all four seasons of his professional career with Partizan NIS Belgrade. A creative scorer with exceptional ball-handling ability, Bogdanovic ranked among the Euroleague leaders with an average of 14.8 points in 2013-14.

In addition to his professional experience with Partizan, Bogdanovic has represented Serbia in several international competitions. The 21-year-old Bogdanovic ranked third on Serbia with 9.4 points per game in addition to averaging 4.3 rebounds in 11 games at Eurobasket 2013.

Brown is a center from Wisconsin-Green Bay who was named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Horizon League in 2013-14. Brown averaged 15.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.1 blocks as a senior, including scoring a career-high 40 points against Fairfield.

Green Bay’s all-time leading shot blocker with 309 in his career, Brown also finished as the school’s fifth all-time leading scorer, finishing his four-year college career with 1,678 points. An excellent outside shooter at a height of 7-foot-1, Brown shot 42.0 percent from three-point territory on 100 attempts in his final season at Green Bay.

The Suns used four selections in tonight’s draft, the most used by the team since they also made four picks in the 1994 NBA Draft.

Promising Draft for a team on the move.
